This essay contest is your chance to explore, reflect, and express your thoughts on a meaningful question. There’s no single correct answer — what matters most is how you think about the topic and communicate your perspective.

Here are some steps and suggestions to help you craft a strong essay:

1. Understand the Topic

  • Take time to read and reflect on the question or theme.
  • Think about what the words mean — are there key terms or concepts you need to define for yourself?

2. Reflect & Explore

  • This contest rewards depth of thought. Avoid giving only the most obvious or popular answer.

  • Ask yourself open-ended questions like:

    • What does this mean to me personally?
    • How does it connect to my experiences, community, or the world?

3. Be Yourself

  • Use your authentic voice.
  • Don’t feel pressured to sound overly formal or use big words you wouldn’t normally use — sincerity and clarity are more powerful.
  • If it makes sense for the topic, feel free to include personal stories, examples from your life, or observations you’ve made.

4. Organise Your Ideas

  • Plan your essay before you start writing. A basic structure could look like this:
    • Introduction: Briefly explain how you understand the question and what your essay will explore.
    • Body paragraphs: Develop your key points one by one. Use examples, reasoning, or stories to support your ideas.
    • Conclusion: Summarise your reflections and, if appropriate, suggest what readers should take away from your essay.
  • Make sure each paragraph connects to your main argument and flows logically into the next.

5. Use Examples & Evidence

  • When you make a point, try to illustrate it with something concrete: a story, a book you’ve read, something you observed in your community, a historical or current event.
  • This shows that you’ve thought carefully and can connect ideas to the real world.

6. Be Creative

  • Don’t be afraid to approach the question from an unusual angle if it makes sense.
  • You can use metaphors, analogies, or even rhetorical questions to make your writing more engaging.
  • Avoid clichés, quotes or overused phrases — instead, find your own way of expressing your ideas.

7. Review & Revise

  • After writing your first draft, take a break, then come back to it with fresh eyes.
  • Check:
    • Does it answer the question?
    • Are the ideas clear and easy to follow?
    • Are there any repetitive or unnecessary parts you can remove?
    • Is grammar, spelling, and punctuation correct?
  • You might even ask a friend or teacher to read it and give feedback.

  • Please upload your entry as a PDF

  • Please name your file as:
    Given Name_Surname_Essay_Prompt Number
    (e.g. Jiya_Goel_Essay_3)

Submit your file as a PDF, in size 12, Times New Roman, double-spaced.

Please make sure your essay does not have any plagiarism or AI tool usage.
